About Us

The MBDA Business Center – Dallas is part of a national network of centers throughout the United States. The Center provides services to Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) firms to assist them in growing their business and increasing their capacity. The Center is operated by the Dallas Fort Worth Minority Supplier Development Council with partial grant awarded by the the U.S. Department of Commerce.

About What We Do & How We Got Here

President Richard M. Nixon established the Office of Minority Business Enterprise (OMBE) on March 5, 1969. The federal agency was dedicated exclusively to minority business enterprises. President Nixon recognized the impact of minority businesses on the nation’s economy and on the general welfare of the country.

By 1973, the OMBE established a national network of business development organizations and provided seed funding to minority advocacy organizations such as the National Minority Purchasing Council (now known as the National Minority Supplier Development Council), U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and other organizations that support ethnic owned businesses.

Following several years of expansion, the OMBE became the Minority Business Development Agency in 1979. It continues to assist minority owned businesses.

The mission of MBDA is to foster the growth and global competitiveness of U.S. businesses that are minority-owned. MBDA serves is the only Federal agency dedicated to the establishment, growth and competitiveness of U.S. businesses that are minority-owned.

Economic prosperity for all American business enterprises with a special emphasis on inclusion and equity for ethnic minority businesses.
